The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo takes over the entire area around NRG Park every March. RV parks for miles around fill up. Lots of park owners eventually start taking overflow rigs onto grass and gravel. Wherever they can fit an RV.

You Have to Have a Permit from the City Before You Add Spaces

In Houston, RV parks are operating under the same rules as manufactured home parks. That means you can’t change the size of your park without getting a permit from the city first.

So if you make a quick decision to add a couple extra rows in February, you could run into a lot of headaches if you didn’t get a permit and somebody gets hurt on your grounds. 

Hosting Livestock in TX Changes the Rules

If your guests are here for the Rodeo, a lot of them are probably coming with horses and stock trailers. If you set up a pin or tie line for those horses, you’re officially hosting livestock. That changes a lot of the rules under Texas law.

Livestock owners have certain protections if someone gets hurt around their animals. But those protections have some requirements. Namely, you have to post a warning sign using exact verbiage provided by the state. Texas changed that required wording in 2021.
